ANIOMA STATE - MY PASSION

Welcome to my blog. OMG! I can't believe I'm blogging!! Its true, I am blogging. When my children bullied me into acquiring a blackberry phone a year ago, I had no idea that I would ever come to blogging. You see, Most people in my generation are terrified, yes terrified of the common PC. As a teacher, I have met with adults who break into sweat at the thought of having to sit in front of a computer. I think I have done well in terms of following modern technology, particularly as it relates to the internet. Not only can I 'ping' and 'blog', I can set up what I need to take part in a webinar e-meeting ( I am not explaining what a webinar is. If you can't work it out, you only have Prince Emmanuel Ohai, the able convener of the Movement for the Creation of Anioma State, to ask, he got me hooked)

I almost got carried away by technology. I am passionate about all that I do. If I believe in it, I do not do half measures, I go all out for it. When I felt that the Labour party had marginalised Africans and taken us for granted, I started to do something about it. Most Africans in the UK are too busy with work and other commitments that they cannot even see this so I am waging a campaign to detox Africans from the Labour Toxins so they can see clearly and make informed choices in the UK political arena..........

My main passion at this point in time remains the agitation for the creation of the proposed Anioma state. Again, its about a marginalised people that have long been taken for granted, its about an area that has not seen much development since the 60s, its about a people who yearn for self actualisation and self-governance, its about an area blessed with abundant human resources and manpower, its about a people who collectively want to take their own destiny in their hands.

Anioma, is comprising towns and communities located in Delta State, South-South region of Nigeria.
The Anioma people for administration purposes are referred to as Delta North. The Anioma region has an estimated population of 2,014,055.[1]

The term Anioma is an acronym derived from the four original local government areas i.e. (A) for Aniocha, (N) for Ndokwa, (I) for Ika, (O) for Oshimili, M and A are common denominators found in the four original local governments. The coinage was made by the founding father, Chief Dennis Osadebay in 1951 and has since remained the preferred indigenous name by which the people collectively refer to themselves. Language spoken by Anioma people is Enuani Igbo.

The British penetration of Nigeria met with various forms of resistance throughout the country. In the south, the British had to fight many wars; in particular the wars against the Ijebus (a Yoruba group) in 1892, the Aro of Eastern Igboland and until 1914, the Anioma of Western Igboland.
Anioma people who had one destiny prior to the coming of the Europeans were balkanized after they lost the Ekumeku War of resistance against the British imperialism in 1914. Our brave ancestors, with their crude weapons, held up the British soldiers for 31 years.

  2. The list is endless. Indeed we have great men and women of goodwill in Anioma State with collective shared sense of responsibilities in community and national development. Did I just say State, yes, we must start confessing it and work towards its actualization. After all we've been admonished that with the heart we believes unto righteousness and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation. So I salute you all the Good People of a Great Nation in the diaspora for the rekindled hope for the actualization of Anioma State. Long live Anioma, Long live Nigeria. One Love. Godfrey Osakwe
