GOODWILL MESSAGE FROM LAURETTA ONOCHIE TO THE LAGOS CHAPTER, UMU ANIOMA FOUNDATION AT THEIR MEET AND GREET ON JULY 2ND, 2011 AND DELIVERED BY JENNIFER ONOCHIE.

Great Umu Anioma,

I want to apologise for my inability to be with you at this Meet and Greet, organised by the Lagos chapter of Umu Anioma Foundation. It is due to work and family commitments and I hope you do understand.
I do not wish to bore you with what some of you already know but I will not fail to remind us that we, as Umu Anioma Foundation, have taken on a huge task that has seen many casualties since 1956. Some of our fore-runners have left indelible marks and we cannot forget the late Chief Denis Osadebe, who coined the name, ‘ANIOMA’, and we have had some Anioma groups that probably started out well but have now ended up in bed with corrupt politicians. These groups only represent themselves as all they do is hold Anioma parties, paid for by our corrupt Anioma politicians while our people are left in abject poverty and want. I am proud and delighted that I am part of Umu Anioma Foundation and I wouldn’t have it any other way.

I want to let you know that it has been said that Umu Anioma Foundation is unique because our eyes are set on a prize, the emancipation of our people and wanting nothing for ourselves other than a better lease of life for the long-suffering people of Anioma. We have a vision and we have both the personnel and the passion to push even beyond the targets we have set for ourselves as a body. We also have youth on our side, well, except Bro Charles Anyasi and I. We believe that our young men and women are the ones that we need to invest in as they are the battle axe of our Anioma nation. With these in mind, we can all see why Lagos is extremely important in the scheme of things as it pertains to Umu Anioma Foundation. Lagos is strategically placed as the largest host to the people of Anioma origin outside the Anioma geographical area and consequently, has more Anioma professionals and youth than any other city in the world. This means that all eyes would be on every one of you sitting here today as individuals and collectively as a group, to be in the fore-front of the work of Umu Anioma Foundation. In this regard I must congratulate you because you are living up to that leadership by having your second Meet and Greet today, when most of us are yet to have the first Meet and Greet in our different towns and cities where we live.

I therefore ask that you do not rest on your oars. Umu Anioma, the task ahead is daunting, the terrain is rough, the weather is inclement, the height appears lofty but the destination is certain. We must not waiver in the pursuit of that which we solidly believe in. Our passion to relieve our people of the burden, neglect, marginalisation and deprivation by subsequent Delta State administrations, with active collaboration of some selfish Anioma sons and daughters, must not wane, we must not compromise our desire for change by shaking hands with those whose hands are leprous. We must continue to be blameless as we cannot be seen to be pointing soiled fingers at those who take our people for granted. Let it not be said that we are in this journey for self-aggrandisement. It is a journey of sacrifice.
Our reward shall come in the form of the creation of the proposed Anioma State, where we will ensure that only men and women with excellent track records and community spirits, who are able to deliver fair and just governance, are entrusted with the mandate of the people of Anioma. We will not settle for less.

I wish to thank our indefatigable Convener, Bro Emmanuel Ohai for his strong and constructive leadership and the priceless sacrifices he makes daily for the cause of Anioma. I often wonder how he juggles family, work and the Foundation.
I also thank the National coordinator, Bro Charles Anyasi, for his hard work and the wisdom he brings with him. The same gratitude goes to Bro Emeka Esogbue, Sis Mabel Magbulu, Bro. Godfrey Osakwe, Bro Chuks Eborah and every one who has contributed in any way to the organisation and enjoyment of this Meet and Greet. Thank you all for coming.
Ofu Obi Bu Ike Anyi
