LEADERS WHO STOKE THE WAR DRUMS BY THEIR RHETORICS ARE INSANE By Gawain Ako

Freedom and liberty are within you. The cause to dictate your own destiny in peace, sensible dialogue and prosperity on the land to which you are born is ethical and noble, but you must do it in the right way. 

Remove that cap of madness, sit down and think. Look at the inner quality of those who make misguided rhetoric to inflame and whip up the drums of war. Are they truly worthy? 

From north to south I see a whole lot of sick and brain-dead leaders who stoke the fire of war and corruption. They are successful in carrying along a generation of youth, bewitched and brain-washed in the excitement of a pumping of the adrenalin and blind rage. They simply love it!

But do they ever think of the repercussions? True warriors will never attract battle or strife to their people. True warriors and leaders will LEAD BY EXAMPLE. They will stand at the forefront of the struggle; they will not sleep on the bed of the oppressors and romance corruption just because their ethnic brother is now there. 

Their principles must be true and consistent. They are guided by fearlessness and service. Do these character reflect on the leaders you follow in blind loyalty? An objective guess is as good as mine.

What I see is a bunch of selfish individuals who stoke fire when they are dry with money and pour water when they are wet with money. Those of you who beat your chest think war is a matter of finger and trigger, right? Go ask the best Generals and Army Commanders, they will never tell you war is a good option and will be turned away in dismay when politicians, militants begin to make flippant statements. 

They will look at the followers in pity saying: OH HOW YOU WANT TO WASTE YOUR LIVES! When the zero hour comes you will be humbled by the carnage. Those who have experienced war will NEVER clamour for it. They can stand the heat of a battle but in their experience they have known that war is an option when human beings have chosen to lower themselves below animals. Even animals have ethics in battle of nature. 
Afghanistan, Syria, Rwanda, Congo, Liberia etc are there for you to learn from, yet you are so deluded and bewitched by blind loyalty.

Maybe this generation will get what they are attracting and many of you who make unguided statements will be entangled by the onrushing karma. There is no “HAD I KNOWN” in the ZERO HOUR. Heed this well, those whom you serve will be the first to dump you in the battle field because they were never true freedom fighters but opportunists. Nigeria has the time to reason aright, now. Stop beating the drums of war and embrace true and genuine dialogue. WAR IS EVIL.

Background On March 20, 1984, the then Chief of Staff, Supreme Headquarters, Major-General Babatunde Idiagbon launched a campaign on ‘National Consciousness and Enlightenment’  at the National Theatre, Igamu, Lagos which lifted the nation into a sphere of national awareness and prepared ground for the then Head of State, Commander-in-Chief, Major-General Muhammadu Buhari’s clarion call that we are all Nigerians and we must fight indiscipline.
