AMNESTY PROGRAMME - PPRESIDENT BUHARI TO THE RESCUE -Lauretta Onochie

🌟The Amnesty Programme was inherited by the Pres. Buhari administration. As with most projects in Nigeria, Pres. Jonathan neither started it nor had exit plans for the 30,000 young men and women who signed up to lay down their arms and be rehabilitated to become useful members of our society.

🌟About Two years ago, many headlines in Nigerian news outfits screamed like this:
"Amnesty Programme: FG has abandoned us – Nigerian students in UK send SOS to Jonathan

🌟For leaders who are emotionally intelligent, this could have been an embarrassment but President Jonathan's priorities did not include standing by the government's obligation and commitment to the Amnesty Programme.

🌟In spite of the delay in making appointments into the administration of President Buhari, an Adviser on the Abandoned Amnesty Programme, was appointed within two months of his being sworn into office. It was a pointer to the seriousness  President Buhari attributed to the programme

🌟And again, in spite of the empty treasury inherited by President Buhari, one of the first inherited bills that was settled was the resumption of payments to Niger Delta Ex-Militants and the payment of outstanding allowances for the Overseas Students on Amnesty Programme.

🌟The Presidential Amnesty Office under the Special Adviser to the President on the same named programme, Brig. Gen. P.T. Boroh, mapped out a two year phased exit strategy for the 30,000 ex militants on the programme.

🌟Of the abandoned students who went to study overseas, 103 of them graduated with honours, from 17 Universities in the UK alone. Many more graduated from local universities in Nigeria.

🌟Here are three of the students who would not have completed their degree programmes in Russia, had President Buhari abandoned the abandoned Presidential Amnesty Programme.
1. Borougha Prince Aladin✔
2. Otokolo Kemebimo Robert✔
3. Osi Tariladei Aditei✔

🌟They all studied Management and Industrial Management at a Russian University. Their transcripts in my possession, showed what brilliant students they were. We applaud their courage in laying down their arms. We are extremely proud of their commitments and academic achievements and wish them well for the future.

🌟Same goes to those who graduated from other universities and under different apprenticeship schemes in:
Agriculture
Automobiles Mechanics
Aviation
Boat building
Carpentry/Plumbing/Pipe-fitting
Crane/Heavy duty Operators
Sea Farers/Cooks/Crude Oil Operators
Welders, Etc. Etc.

🌟We salute the wisdom of Late President Yar Adua in putting together the Amnesty programme with a life span and time limit.

🌟We salute the commitment of the present administration in providing an exit strategy aimed at seeing the Amnesty Programme to a fruitful logical conclusion, including job creation for those who qualify.

🌟The Federal Government is committed to the Amnesty programme and will see it through for the 30,000 ex-militants who chose the path of self-improvement to empower themselves for national development.

God bless Nigeria.
God bless us, everyone.
